Frequently Asked Questions
How should I prepare for my pet's photo shoot?
To get the most out of your photo session, you're going to want your best friend at their most gorgeous. Depending on their breed you might want to book them in for a wash and trim before the day, or you might want to treat them to a new collar for the occasion. Leashes I will remove during the editing stage, but collars will usually be left in, so a smart one can be a nice touch.
It’s a great idea to also think about yourself! I love to photograph pets with their people, but even if you don’t plan to be in your photographs - sometimes a beautiful candid moment will present itself, or I may include shots where your hands are petting your dog, etc. so it is worthwhile dressing up a little for the occasion (while staying practical for the location). It can be a great excuse for a manicure or a new pair of boots. Remember, these photos will be hanging pride of place on your walls for years to come so you'll want to be looking just as gorgeous as your pooch!
What if my dog isn't perfectly trained?
No problem! I'm used to working with dogs of all kinds. I have a number of tricks up my sleeve to get the best out of your pup, and if we need to stay on lead I can edit it out afterwards. Just please bring a collar for your dog as harnesses will not be edited out post session. Before the session I will ask you to tell me all about your dog, so please be honest and let me know of any little quirks they may have and we will plan a session which will be fun and safe for everybody involved.
What if my dog is not in the best of health or has additional needs?
It's my aim to make your photo session as enjoyable for you and your pup as possible, so we will discuss any additional needs in our pre shoot consultation. Whether your pup is not so good on their feet these days, or is nervous in certain situations, we'll plan the whole thing around what's best for both them and you, so everyone can have a wonderful experience.
What happens if it rains?
We all know how unpredictable the British weather can be, so I will check the weather forecast the day before our session and contact you to confirm everything is fine for it to go ahead. If it looks like rain, we can reschedule at no extra cost.
Do you photograph animals other than dogs?
Yes, I do! I realise the vast majority of my portfolio is dogs, but don’t let that fool you, I love all animals and would be happy to photograph any of your pets. I grew up around horses and farm animals and have photographed cats at Carla Lane Animals In Need. For any other animals you may have, I always welcome a new challenge!
